The hardest thing when it comes to setting goals is not that people cannot think about what they want to achieve… they do it every day, they dream of what life could be like.

The hard thing?

Is that by setting a goal - is yes we set what success would look like for us, but we also set what failure would look like. What happens if we DON’T achieve it? Well our brain computes that as a failure. Deep down subconsciously we know that, so we decide to NOT set proper goals. To not articulate them. To not share them, to not write them down. The old ‘she’ll be right’ attitude. And then what happens? We coast on by.

In my opinion, and after working with a lot of the best in the world on this sort of stuff is because we are always shooting for more/the biggest outcome. Our maximum achievable goal.

Whatever it might be for you.

But it’s un-maintanable. You can’t consistently do 100m sprints at an olympic level for 10kms.

What I believe is a good approach (for me, do your own research of course) - is to increase you minimum output. Create higher floors. Create higher minimums.

Want to go to the gym weekly? Start by creating your MINIMUM at 2 sessions a week. Then slowly increase your minimum.

Want to have $200k months in business? Start by having consistent $50k months as your worst month… then build and increase the floor.

Set your goals around improving your minimum standards… then you are way less likely to backslide once you hit your goal. Way less likely to hit burnout chasing that Highest peak… cause guess what happens once you hit it?

The only option is to increase it, again and again and again. Which means when you have bigger peaks… there will be bigger valleys.

Increase the floors. Raise the valleys.

Increase the minimum weight you grab in the gym. Increase your minimum number of sessions. Increase your minimum monthly recurring income.

Just one simple mans opinions and ramblings… as always.. do your own research into what works for you!
